how does the referral system work?

Plain-language answer based on how the system actually works.

Every active subscriber gets a 6-character referral code. When someone pays with your code (via ?ref=YOURCODE in the URL), you get +30 days added to your subscription. Lifetime subs still bank the credit even though they don't need it.
